It’s Time For Ice Cream (and Your Input)!

It’s time for our annual neighborhood ice cream social in the park! We look forward to seeing you at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 17.

This year we’re adding some new features: In addition to interactive entertainment for kids of all ages from the Twistin Vixen, you can weigh in on your opinions of two concepts for the future revamping of the park at Windom Park. Want to see a pond? Skate park? Refrigerated rink? Nature areas? Enhanced basketball courts? See what’s proposed in the East of the River Parks Master Plan process; our neighborhood’s committee representative will be present to tell you all about it and listen to what you think at this informal gathering, rain or shine. (Look for us inside the Rec Center in case of rain.)

We’ll also have on hand Yellow Comment Cards on the city’s Comprehensive Plan 2040 for you to fill out. The Comprehensive Plan specifies increased housing density for many parts of the Windom Park neighborhood, land uses, transportation plans, and more. The draft does not entirely match the Windom Park neighborhood’s Small Area Plan, created by you and your neighbors over the past three years — so we need to tell the city what we want. Weigh in now! Fill out or bring your comment card to the ice cream social, and we’ll make sure it gets to the City of Minneapolis by the July 22 deadline. Tell the city that you want to see the Small Area Plan created by the hard work of your own Windom Park neighbor-volunteers through many community meetings and outreach incorporated into this Comprehensive Plan and not ignored by city staff.
