Summary:

Windom Park Citizens in Action (WPCiA) is seeking an administrator to fulfill the duties of our neighborhood-based nonprofit. This person will be the representative of Windom Park to its residents and the City of Minneapolis. This will be an ideal position for a motivated self-starter that enjoys meeting people, talking about Windom Park neighborhood, and finding new ways to connect.

We are looking for an individual that understands the role nonprofits can play in enhancing and developing a community and has passion to drive our organization forward. This individual will work independently to seek out new opportunities for engagement with residents of Windom Park and increase the equitable participation of all demographic groups and stakeholders.

WPCiA manages programs that benefit its residents, including financial loans, grants, rebates, and others. The staff person would act as public liaison for these programs, but actual financial transactions are handled by third-party partners. Clear, timely, and professional communication with our residents and partners is an important part of this role.

WPCiA is actively working to increase the quality and quantity of its engagement activities with residents and members of the community. This person will perform outreach and communication for the organization including, but not limited to, social media posts, bulk email blasts, coordinating content for mailings, tabling, and organizing/participating in calls and meetings.

  • Is organized and has good written and verbal communication skills
  • Is interested in making Windom Park and the city of Minneapolis a more inclusive and equitable place to live for all its residents
  • Lives in Windom Park, Minneapolis, or a nearby community, and understands the geography and general constituency of the neighborhood
  • Understands grassroots civic activity and is engaged in civic discourse

Responsibilities:

  • Increase outreach and community connections with residents, businesses, and property owners in the neighborhood
  • Seek opportunities for community engagement
  • Attend community and government meetings, activities and events that align with goals of WPCiA and report back to the Board with information
  • Administration and coordination of WPCiA programs
  • Manage communications with City regarding funding and operational programs
  • Manage communications and contracts with partner organizations
  • Manage content of website (calendar of events, basic content editing) – No HTML, coding, or website development experience necessary
  • Manage social media channels, email blasts and subscription lists
  • Administration of basic office duties – answering telephone, filing paperwork, etc. following standard nonprofit best practices
  • Manage communications and scheduling special guests for regular neighborhood and board of directors’ meetings
  • Work with Board Treasurer to manage financial transactions and prepare payments to subcontractors and service providers.  

Hours:

This job has an expected average of 32-40 hours per week. Primarily a day-time weekday position, this job will require some evening and weekend work.

Compensation:

$25-$35/hr, based on experience. This is a non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This person will work independently from the Windom Park Citizens in Action main office, located at 1845 NE Stinson Blvd in Minneapolis. They will report to and receive direction from the Board of Directors but will have the opportunity to craft this position and make it their own. This position is primarily office work, and this person will be expected to be able to sit and operate a computer for extended periods of time. Some travel may be required to attend community events, meetings, and other engagement opportunities.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 4 years office, administrative, or executive experience
  • Above average computer skills and experience with Office 365, Word, Excel, Outlook, and various database software.
  • High ethical and professional standards 
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through learning, training, and dialogue
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with and for diverse groups of people
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with ability to work independently
  • Positive, warm, and friendly demeanor; able to greet community members with care, compassion, and helpfulness
  • Working understanding of county/community-based services/programs

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Experience with Mailchimp (or similar email programs), social media, and website content editing software, such as WordPress
  • Experience managing nonprofit organizations a plus
  • Knowledge of function and operation of local government, including City of Minneapolis and its departments
